I swear that this crap only happens to me.

The morning started out like any normal morning. I got the girls off to summer school and then the boys and I came home to get ready for the day. After cleaning up the house a bit and me doing a bit of blogging (see previous post) me and the boys headed out to the back yard to relax and play.

After a bit I heard the phone ringing inside, so I ran in to answer the phone. While trying to get the telemarketer to let me go I heard Coen crying outside, so I quickly hung up the phone to run out and check on him. He had scraped his knee and it was bleeding, so back into the house we went. We went straight into the bathroom to work on getting his knee cleaned up. In my rush to get Coen into the house I apparently left the back door open.

A few moments later as I was cleaning Coen's knee I thought that I saw something fly by the bathroom door out of the corner of my eye. Hmmmm, "that not good", I thought to myself. Then I heard the cat going crazy in the living room and what sounded like, yep, you guessed it, a bird.
I not-so-quickly headed to the living room where I found our cat, Lily, tackling a bird! It was then that I started screaming hysterically at the cat to get away from the bird, which was still very much alive. I ran and grabbed the broom to shoo the cat away and keep her from mangling the bird any further. Meanwhile, Coen was crying at the sight of this live bird flitting about on the floor and Braden had run into the bathroom for cover. (See, he's a very smart boy.)

After 20 minutes(!!!!) I finally got the cat to leave the bird alone, at which point I was able to lock the cat in the laundry room. During that time I paged Scott and not-so-calmly explained to him what was going on, and eventually was able to convince him to come home to deal with this bird situation. I am sorry to say that I am not a woman who can handle having live, wild birds in the house and I shamelessly call on my man do deal with such dilemmas.

By then it was time for us to go pick Regan and Gwen up from summer school, so off we went, leaving the bird on the floor in our living room. While gone I hoped and prayed that the bird did not get up and start flying around my house. Thankfully, it stayed where I had left it, and when Scott arrived home he was able to easily catch the bird with a towel and get it out of the house, all while I kept the kids busy outside by going to visit with our neighbors. The bird was still very much alive when Scott took it outside, so he released it behind our garage.

It is now nearly 1 PM and the only thing I want to do right now is to put on my pjs, crawl into bed, and spend the rest of the day trying to forget about yet another crazy ass and unbelievable day in the life of me.
